about

Trained classical vocalist Nazia formed Don’t Ask in 2010. From the beginning, the band’s music proved to be as unique and eclectic as its members, guitarists Arshad Ahmed Masrur and Saadul Islam, drummer Jibon, bassist Bart Nandit Areng, and producer Saad Chowdhury. The band’s break came in 2011, when they were invited by the French Embassy to perform at the 40 years celebration of Bangladesh in Paris; since then, Nazia and Don’t Ask Collaborated with Saad Chowdhury and started fine tuning Karmic Dhun for its eventual release.
The released single Dinodiya is composed by Nazia from the roots of Raag Multani. Flutist Jalal and Percussionist Mithun Chakraborty came in as guest artists as Nazia sang the tale of Radha being smitten by Krishna’s flute. The song had been written by Joynal Abedin, a lyricist and Security Guard at the French Embassy in Bangladesh.
The other released single Baper Bari was written and composed by Nazia and Bart Nandit, is a tale of a young bride leaving her father’s humble home and stepping into her new life. Ekram Hossain on Esraj and Nazrul Islam on Dhol were the guest artists.
Jar Mone: This is a Radha Krishna Folk collected from Guruma Shipra Khan was recomposed and arranged by Don’t Ask. Seth Panduranga Blumberg played rhythm as guest artist. This song was mixed by Johan Alamgir.
Kaberi Nodi: A remake of Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s Classic. Kaharba Taal fused with Reggae gave this song a new avatar. Nazrul Islam played the harmonium and Seth Panduranga Blumberg played the guitar as guest artists in this song.
Probhu: Written and composed by Nazia this song is a prayer for salvation based on Raag Bageshree. Guest artists Mithun Chakraborty played the Percussions and Seth Panduranga Blumberg played the guitar.
Shob Kota Janala: Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul’s classic was remade with a new flavor by blending in some Hindustani classical taan. Jibon’s drums and Saad Chowdhury’s guitar and synth work and piano kept the song grounded to its roots of patriotism and originality.
